How to submit images for consideration as album artwork.

September 14, 2009

The intention is that the artwork for the finished album sleeve will be composed of images submitted by the public inspired by each of the individual songs on the album.  All images will be fully credited; permission will be sought from each image’s creator for usage prior to the artwork being finalised; and each person who does contribute an image which ends up being used on the sleeve will receive some small but special reward (that’s in addition to public glory and my deep gratitude).

If you’d like to contribute an image inspired by one of the new songs uploaded here, upload that image to an external server and leave a link on this blog so that I (and everyone else) can have a look.

The images can of any kind – photography, painting, drawing, digital art, typography – and they can be as LITERAL or LATERAL as you like.

The only requirements are that (a) they’re ORIGINAL (I don’t want to be sued for copyright infringement); (b) they’re suitable for reproduction on a single page of a CD booklet (120mm x 120mm); and (c) they’re beautiful / striking / interesting.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with…

Any requests?

September 2, 2009

In addition to showcasing my new songs, I’ll be playing a “special requests” slot at each Gestation show – and here’s where you get to do the requesting.  Post your three favourite songs from my back catalogue (in order of preference) in GESTATION REQUESTS and I’ll do my best to accommodate you.  (Make sure to indicate which month you’ll be attending so that I don’t end up playing your obscure 12-inch b-side request on a night when you’re not there.)

Untidy LYRICS

September 1, 2009

Gently does it, born to be mild

I’ve been raising limbo

Ever since I was a child

Better safe than sorry, better just make sure

But better’s getting harder to endure

I won’t go quietly, I’ll make a fuss

I’ll be untidy for the two of us

I’ll be trouble, I won’t play ball

I’ll make all the big mistakes

That make it all worthwhile

Easy, easy, it’s so easy to talk

When you’re bulletproof and beautiful

You run before you walk

You do whatever pleases you

I do what I ought

But I’ve been biding my time

Gathering my thoughts

I’ll be messy, I won’t be proud

I won’t stop searching

Until I’ve found us both out

I’ll shout “action”, I won’t shout “cut”

And I won’t accept a single “if” or “but”

From anyone but

You’re so scared of consequences

But I still love the crime

To act without good reason

To cut across the rhyme

So forget your consequences

We’re only here one time

Let’s go squeezing out our meanings

Squeezing out our feelings

And keeping our untidness alive

Keeping our untidiness alive

Keeping our untidiness alive

Unreasonable Sex LYRICS

September 1, 2009

I want to have me some unreasonable sex

I want to work my way through an acre of latex

I want to have me some unreasonable sex with you

Or anybody else who cares to

It’s so hard

Lying alone on your bed and doing nothing

It’s so hard

When you’re not getting that dirty sweaty hot thing

It’s so hard

Wishing and praying for love to bring you something

It’s too hard to bear

I want it now

I want it here

I want to have me some unreasonable sex

I want to spend my love like I hold a gold AMEX

I want to have me some unreasonable sex with you

Or anybody else who cares to

It’s so long

Since I lay down with someone good and ready

It’s so long

Since my body touched a whole other body

It’s so long

to be strong and sure and pure and rock-steady

It’s too long to wait

It’s you

It’s me

It’s now

It’s fate

I want to have me some unreasonable sex

I want to re-arrange the laws of cause and effect

I want to have me some unreasonable sex with you

Or the Lord knows what I will do

The Lord knows

The Lord knows

The Lord knows

The Lord knows

The Lord knows I’m old enough to be a reasonable man

And I’ve been doing, and I’ve been trying, and I’ve been being the best I can

But there’s a war going on inside me between testosterone and soul

And today I’ve got to say that it’s the bad guys got control

I want to have me some unreasonable sex

I want to scrub that loving muscle till it reflects

I want to have me some unreasonable sex with you

I do I do I do I do

I want it

You’ve got it

You’ve got it

And I want it

I want it

You’ve got it

Please give it to me

Give it to me

Give it to me

Give it to me

Save Pluto LYRICS

September 1, 2009

Why can’t more of Turkey be in Europe if it wants to be?

Why can’t I stay up as late as you when you’re more tired than me?

And when I die will I get wings to fly?

Save Pluto

It’s so much more beautiful

Than all those other bigger planets

Please don’t grow

Although I know you must

But just don’t lose your happy stance

God’s greatest gift to me – to see this world through your new eyes

My fearful prayer for you – that fear will never trump surprise

And you won’t die

And you’ll still have wings to fly

Save Pluto

It’s so much more beautiful

Than all those other bigger planets

Please don’t grow

Although I know you must

But just don’t lose your happy stance

There’s no mystery outer space could hold as inexplicable

As the galaxy of hope and wonder that you’ve made me feel

And when I die

You will be my wings to fly

Save Pluto

It’s so much more beautiful

Than all those other bigger planets

Please don’t grow

Although I know you must

But just don’t lose your happy stance

Infrastructure LYRICS

September 1, 2009

Piece by piece the scaffolding falls from

The fresh stone

And who truly knows if what they’ve built can

Truly stand alone

But like it or not

You’ll see someday

In the hardest way

All that you’ve got

It’s not like buckeroo, one thing too much

And you explode

It’s more like Jenga – just the last piece holding

The load

Happens to be gone

And your plan

Just simply

Can’t go on

You never doubt your

Infrastructure

Till you’re without your

Infrastructure

And it’s all about your

Infrastructure

Pray for structure

Hold your structure

Guard your structure

Love your structure
